The Client
The Client is a US company supplying high-performance image acquisition and analysis systems for life science to both academic research and biotech/pharma discovery accounts. The growing company employs more than 100 people at its US headquarters.
Role
The Client currently addresses the European market through independent distributors managed from the US headquarters. To further expand its global sales, the Client is now seeking an experienced locally based sales professional to develop the large market opportunity in Europe. The Sales Director Europe is a key figure in the Client’s growth strategy, reporting directly to the Vice President, Sales.
The Sales Director will be responsible for managing the European distributor organizations and individual sales representatives, as well as being directly responsible for sales in certain countries. He/she will be responsible for the European sales pipeline, and expected to:
- Generate monthly forecasts and order status reports using the company CRM system
- Manage, organize, and attend sales events such as tradeshows and seminars to develop and build customer contacts, the order pipeline, and product awareness
- Build and maintain customer satisfaction by establishing customer relationships with existing and new clients
- Maintain a high level of technical and application competence for the Client’s product lines
- Participate in strategic planning to ensure the product roadmaps and marketing initiatives meet the needs of the European region
The ideal candidate for this position is an experienced manager of sales teams for capital equipment into the life science research market with the ability to use a solution-based consultative sales approach. In addition to being highly motivated and used to working independently, he/she should have:
- A proven record of meeting or exceeding business targets
- The proven ability to prospect for and close new business
- Demonstrated experience to managing complex sales events for highly technical products
- Exceptional interpersonal and relationship building skills
- Strong listening, written, and verbal communication skills
Since the sales territory covers all Europe, the candidate can expect up to 50% travel within Europe, with some travel to North America. Although location in Germany is preferred, the position could be located elsewhere in Europe with access to a major airport.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 to 10 years life science equipment sales experience, with proven success leading sales teams for high growth
- A technical or science degree
- Fluency in English and at least 1 other European language (oral and written) preferably German or French
- Experience in one or more of the following areas is strongly preferred
- Widefield or confocal microscopy
- Fluorescence imaging
- Digital image analysis
- Statistical analysis
