Position:                 International Field Application Scientist

Reports to:             VP International Sales

The Client

The Client is a rapidly growing US based private company on the forefront of next generation microscopy products, in business for over 15 years. Its focus is on designing, developing and offering innovative optical equipment for the life sciences market including research and diagnostic laboratories. A new product line is taking the industry by storm and the Client is rapidly enlarging its local and international team to fuel its success.

Role

The Client’s worldwide team of distributors requires additional support and further business development overall. Hence, the Client wishes to install its first International Field Application Scientist to support its latest product line of innovative microscopes. The incumbent will be the primary technical contact for customers / distributors, providing technical guidance regarding the Client’s products and applications, supporting the distributors by delivering product demonstrations, customer trainings, and be responsible for all aspects of pre-sales and post-sales technical support. The incumbent will also be a key participant in the implementation of various marketing tactics by sourcing the best places to market the new product line, delivering technical presentations at conferences, workshops and creating marketing documents and competitive analysis.

Being its first such Field Application Scientist overseas, the incumbent would at first work from home in a central European location. Markets critical to the Client are the UK, France and Germany, Singapore, Hong Kong. Other locations may be considered for highly qualified individuals.

Tasks:

  • Assist the Client’s distributors throughout Europe and Asia to meet or exceed sales quota, through the provision of technical expertise and commercial guidance
  • Perform customer demos, trainings and technical support.
  • Participate actively in the sales process from deal qualification to deal closure.
  • Train distributors on existing and new products
  • Assist in evaluating potential new distributors as well as existing distributor performance and assist in their understanding of the Client’s products
  • Be knowledgeable of the competition and able to identify the Client's competitive advantage over competition. Analyze customer requirements and recommend appropriate solutions
  • Act as the customer voice to influence future product design that meets customer needs.
  • Work on system / application engineering assignments with broadly defined objectives
  • Solve non-routine issues, challenges and problems
  • Participate in industry trade shows and events – deliver technical presentations

Qualification:

  • BS degree related to life sciences and a minimum of 3-4 years relevant industrial experience. Candidates with advanced degrees preferred.
  • Demonstrate a clear understanding in the field of microscopy
  • Competent and comfortable with hands-on work in the laboratory and customers’ facilities.
  • Fluent in English, preference for candidates that speak additional languages like French, German, Spanish
  • Exhibit superior oral and written communication skills in order to present information to customers and peers.
  • Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Must be able to function well working independently in customer's facility and in home office.

Other Job Information:

Details of the income package still are being finalized but will be very rewarding should business exceed expectations. This position is specifically attractive for high caliber ‘doers’ as the Client’s organization is rather small and flexible, made up of high profile talents in its US headquarters. At the outset, the incumbent is the first of the Client’s direct representatives in Europe / Asia to support its distributors. Additions to the staff and the portfolio of distributors are being considered. The incumbent will play a critical role in making those further investments into developing critical European and Asian markets.
